Lewis University Hosts 2nd Annual High School Art Invitational

Lewis University’s second annual High School Art Invitational is available to the public from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily through January 18 in the Brent and Jean Wadsworth Family Gallery, located on the university’s main campus in Romeoville.

The show includes 50 pieces of artwork from students at Plainfield North, Plainfield South, Plainfield East, Plainfield Central and Romeoville High Schools.

Art teachers from each school were asked to submit the top 10 works of art from students, with all forms of media being accepted. The show includes including drawing, painting, sculpture and photography.

Awards were presented at the opening reception on January 11. Best in Show was presented to Joe Tkac from Plainfield East for his Acrylic and Sharpie Drawing entitled “Cynthia.” Eight Honorable Mention awards were presented to the following students:

• Gabby Bonasera, (Plainfield North) for "Untitled (Female Portrait)," Charcoal Drawing
• Jack Swain, (Plainfield North) for "Untitled (Dish)," Resin Wood Sculpture
• Makenzie Groenhof, (Plainfield South) for "Skulley," Stoneware Sculpture
• Emmalee Randazzo, (Plainfield East) for "Vogue," Digital Photography
• Shania Zavadsky, (Plainfield East) for "Mirage," Digital Photography
• Nasa Vo, (Plainfield Central) for "Flower Child," Pen on Paper Drawing
• Cynthia Martinez, (Romeoville High School) for "Self Portrait," Charcoal Drawing
• Tomi Van Dyke, (Romeoville High School) for " What's Black and White and Red and Blue All Over?," Colored Pencil Drawing

The Wadsworth Family Gallery is located in the Oremus Fine Arts Center at Lewis University. The Department of Art and Design manages the gallery events, which include Lewis University student shows, local and regional artist shows, annual high school exhibits, faculty shows, academic-based exhibitions and cultural and religious based art shows.
