My name is Valerie Peterson. I grew up in Kankakee, Illinois. I attended Kankakee High School where I discovered my passion to lead and help people. Here at Lewis, I am currently a senior majoring in Business Administration with a minor in Marketing. I currently work as the lead Student Organization Resource Center (SORC) worker. In this position, I work closely with numerous student organizations as well as larger events on campus to ensure the Lewis experience is one to remember. I also sit as the student representative on many committee throughout the University. Some of these include Academic Affairs Board of Trustees and Bookstore Oversight Committee. I love to travel and hope to one day travel across the globe. So far, I have visited almost every state in the United States, as well as, the Dominican Republic and Spain. My passion to help others has made my decision for Graduate school very easy. After my undergrad, I want to stay at Lewis to receive my master’s in organizational leadership with a concentration in Not-For-Profit. I enjoy seeing the way that I impact another person’s life and look forward to a future of helping others.

William Riley

William Riley

William Z. Riley is a native of the South Side of Chicago and is a rising senior at Lewis University. At Lewis, he is double majoring in Aviation Administration and Public Policy, which he plans to use by conducting policy work for the Federal Government. William is one of the founding members of the Lasallian Justice Coalition, which is a group dedicated to promoting Lasallian values by talking about and providing action plans to combat social justice issues. William was also nominated by multiple faculty and staff members in the summer of 2015 to attend a Global Leadership and Understanding Conference in Rome, Italy. In the summer of 2016, he was selected as 1 of 46 Congressional Black Caucus interns where he worked in the United States Congress. Throughout the duration of this internship, William had the unique opportunity to work along with Congressional Members in Washington, DC on Civil Rights legislation, as well as conduct research for the Energy and Commerce Committee.

Throughout his time at Lewis, he has invested significant time and effort into whatever role he has served. Whether that has been as a Navigator, Head Orientation Student Leader for SOAR, or Commuter Senator; William will always give whatever he is doing 110%! He will bring this same mentality while he is serving in the capacity as Vice President! He seeks to build bridges between the Student Senate and the student organizations by listening and hearing the concerns of the student body!

I am the Alexander Hamilton of the Lewis University Student Senate. I manage the finances of the student senate. I am also involved in the Lewis University E-Sports Club. When I'm not playing video games, you can find me eating food, and watching House of Cards or the Office. I am looking forward to working with this year’s senate and to get more stuff done for the student body.

Hey guys, I’m Shay, and I’m a senior nursing major. This year I am the Director of Communications, and last year I served as the Nursing and Health Professions Senator. On campus, I am involved in SNA which is Student Nurses Association and also ministry. Currently I am a student nurse at Loyola Hospital and I love it. You may have seen me on campus the past two summers as a Student Orientation Leader as well.  When I’m not studying or working, I enjoy reading in my hammock and traveling. I’m excited for this opportunity and can’t wait to see all that Senate has in store this year!

Jaylen Bush

Jaylen Alexander Bush, is 18 years old, and a graduate of Marian Catholic High School. He is the current Freshman Senator of Lewis University. He is also a Bridge to Success student, and currently has an undeclared major, but is looking into Aviation Flight or Unmanned Aircraft Systems. Jaylen enjoy drumming, watching movies and Netflix shows, and doing community service with Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated, Top Teens of America, and helping students like him focus on their futures. Jaylen currently works in Lewis’s Shipping and Receiving department and is involved with the Black Student Association and The Organization of Aerospace Professionals. Before his time at Lewis University, Jaylen was the Chaplain and Sergeant at Arms of the Midway Chicago Chapter of Top Teens of America and is now the former President of the Midway Chicago Chapter. In March 2017, he was awarded the Top Teens "Area III Carol J. Harris most Outstanding President Award" of the Illinois, Milwaukee, and St. Lewis areas (Area III). He graduated from Top Teens of America in June of 2017. Jaylen is also a Tuskegee Next Cadet and pilot with over 50 logged hours of flying time and soloed with 27 hours logged. He is also a member of the Tuskegee Airmen's "Dodo" Chicago Chapter.

Victoria Brier, from Lemont, Illinois and a graduate of Lemont High School, is a sophomore majoring in Business Administration at Lewis University. Here at Lewis, she is the President of the Collegiate Entrepreneurs’ Organization, Vice President of Professional Activities of Delta Sigma Pi, and she is in Chamber Choir and Harmonic Uprising – Lewis University’s a cappella group. In striving to make positive impacts in the Lewis University community, Victoria has served as a Student Ambassador, Peer Minister, the Sophomore Senator, the assistant to the Lowell Stahl Center for Entrepreneurship and Real Estate and gives as much of her time to the community of Lewis University as possible. She is extremely grateful for the opportunities she has had at Lewis and will continue to serve the Lewis University community.

Hello, my name is Kaelen Evon. I am a junior majoring in Organizational Communications pursuing a minor in Business Administration and History. I am also a Resident Assistant in Saint Charles Borromeo. I am involved in the first ever Lewis Women’s Club Volleyball team, the president of HEROES (which is a sexual assault awareness and bystander intervention organization). I am the director of the ministry retreat known as FYI, First Year Interaction, a member of Outdoor Adventure Club, and over the summer I'm an Orientation Group Leader. I am incredibly grateful and excited to be a part of the senate and hope to make great strides in improving campus life for our students!

Hello, my name is Dylan Groskreutz. I am a senior mathematics major. I currently work in the Student Organization Resource Center (SORC) office. Through the SORC office, I am able to work extremely close with the student organizations that are on campus. Over the summer I am an Orientation Student Leader. Helping incoming students fall in love with the Lewis Community is an opportunity that I am truly grateful to have. I am excited to be a part of Student Senate and hope to enhance the Lewis experience for all our students.


Chas Martinetz

Chas Martinetz

Chas is originally from Rockford, IL and joined the Marines in 2007 at the age of 17. After a year of combat and technical training, he was stationed overseas in Okinawa, Japan for three years. He deployed from Japan to the Philippines, South Korea, Thailand and Australia. Chas was promoted meritoriously to Corporal and Sergeant while stationed overseas. Chas then re-enlisted for four more years and changed his job to Air Traffic Control and was stationed at Cherry Point, North Carolina. While at Cherry Point he oversaw the Funeral Team and was the Color Sergeant for two years. Chas was honorably discharged from the Marine Corps in 2015 after being on active duty for eight years.

Chas recently graduated from his undergrad program in August 2017 and majored in Aviation Administration and Air Traffic Control Management with a minor in Aircraft Dispatch. He is pursuing a Master of Science in Aviation and Transportation. Chas has been working at Lewis University in the Office of Veterans Affairs since September 2015. As a Veterans Affairs liaison, he advises other service members and their dependents on academic and financial aid options. Chas is also a member of the Student Veterans of America chapter here at Lewis University.

Hello, my name is Alexandra Laniewski, but everyone calls me Lexi. I am currently a senior majoring in Environmental Science. Growing up as a kid, I always was interested in how nature works and how we can make the world a better place I always felt that I had my passion for the environmental ever since I was little, but I truly feel in love with it in a class that I took in high school. Outside of classes, I am currently working in the Student Organization Resource Center (SORC). With this position, I am able to work with organizations and host large events on campus for everyone to enjoy. I am also involved in Sustainability Club and Photo Club. Outside of school and work, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends. I’m very active and enjoy playing different sports. When I’m not active I enjoy reading a good book. I’m very grateful to serve on the Student Senate as the Commuter Senator!

Reece Bhave

Reece Parag Bhave, is an Indian (born in Mumbai, India) who grew up in Johannesburg, South Africa, finished his last 2 years of high school in Bahrain (Island Country in the Middle East) and is currently a Sophomore student majoring in Aviation and Aerospace Technology, as well as studying to get his FAA Private Pilot’s License. By virtue of being an international student as well as experiencing so many different cultures and people from across the world, Reece was elected as the International Student Senator, in order to represent the growing and diverse populous of international students at Lewis. Within his first year at Lewis, Reece was nominated by members of faculty and staff to attend the Global Leadership and Understanding Conference in Rome, Italy during the summer of 2017. He has also had the opportunity of being a national swimmer, representing both South Africa, as well as Bahrain in both Pool and Open Water Competitions. across the world. Reece’s interest in Model United Nations also helped expose him to the organization, as well as how the different councils functioned within their own capacity, and he was given the opportunity to attend the 62nd North American Invitational Model United Nations (NAIMUN LII) conference in Washington D.C, as well as become the President of the British School of Bahrain’s annual MUN conference (BritMUN III), which became the largest MUN conference in the Middle East.

Hi, my name is Deysi Rodriguez. I grew up in Wheeling, Illinois. I went to Wheeling High school and I was on the Student Government for two years as an Executive Board Officer, as well as being a peer mentor and a Snowball Leader. Here at Lewis, I am a freshman majoring in Political Science and double minoring in Spanish and Communications. Outside of classes, I am currently working for the University of Advancement and I am involved with clubs and I enjoy going to Zumba. I live on campus, and my favorite spot on campus is a bench on the Nature Trail. I am very excited to be on Senate and be more involved on campus as well as making a positive impact at Lewis University!

Connor Ritzi is a Senior at Lewis University from Valparaiso, Indiana. He is double majoring in Business Administration and Marketing. Connor is also on the Cross Country and Track teams at Lewis, thus, he is the Athletic Senator. He is also the President of the SAAC organization, which is made up of representatives from each sports team that work together to improve Lewis athletics. By representing student athletes in the Senate, he hopes to continue bettering the Lewis experience for everyone.

I was born in Joliet and grew up there for a majority of my life, later moving to Minooka Illinois. My family is large and I enjoy being a part of their lives. My family attends Jubilee Baptist Church in Romeoville IL. We have been there since I was a young child. Once moving from Joliet to Minooka I attended Minooka Community High School. In high school I was active in the sports realm and within the community.

After graduating from Minooka I went straight to Lewis. I am currently pursuing a Degree in Finance going into my senior year. I also am a very active student in the University. I run track here at the school, am a part of the Math club, work for the IT department and I’ll continue to find many other ways to be a part of the various communities here. It is a privilege to help cultivate the values upheld by the university in a way that will also be a public voice for the College of Business. I look forward to helping to serve the community.

Tim Collins was raised in Peotone, IL and is currently a senior at Lewis University. He is majoring in environmental science with a focus on ecology. When he is not doing research in the bio labs, he is a peer minister at Sheil hall, leading sustainability club as President, is a student representative on the Lewis University Sustainability Council, and is a leader for different retreats in ministry, and is a member of the Student Senate Mission Committee. During the summer, he works at the Forest Preserve District of Will County, doing restoration and conservation work. After graduation Tim plans to move out west to work for a national park as a restoration ecologist.

Hello, my name is Zebulun Freeman-Walker. I’m a sophomore majoring in Aviation and Aerospace Technology. I was raised on the southside of Chicago and attended Mount Carmel High School. During the first semester of my sophomore year I became a founder of Omega Delta National Fraternity at Lewis University. You may have seen me around campus giving campus tours to prospective students or in the aviation building. During my free time I enjoy hanging with friends or getting involved in the intramural sports at the rec center. I plan to bring more life into the Greek Life on campus with this opportunity and look forward to helping the community.

Hi all!

My name is Caley Oltman and I am a sophomore Special Education/Elementary Education combined major here at Lewis. I grew up in Bloomington/Normal, Illinois where I developed my aspiration for teaching and passion for serving others! I was blessed with being named a 2016 Golden Apple teaching scholar, so I will be teaching in an academically or financially needy school in the state of Illinois following my graduation from Lewis. My plan is to become a 4th or 5th grade special education teacher!

Within the Lewis Student Senate, my roles include primarily being the College of Education senator, as well as being the chair of the Student Services Committee and member of the Mission Committee. Outside of Student Senate, I am a Resident Assistant in Sheil Hall, executive board member for Best Buddies (where we build one to one friendships with adults with disabilities), member of the organization for Catholic Educators, active member within ministry, and setter on the women's club volleyball team. Within ministry, I am a Eucharistic minister and reader at weekly masses as well as volunteering for the mentoring program in Joliet called Sons of Thunder!

I truly believe that as a Lewis community we have so much potential to grow and make a great change around us! That change starts with all of us at Lewis currently, and I hope to help facilitate that change through Student Senate and the other organizations I take part in. Being active in such a variety of organizations has allowed me to meet so many incredible people within and surrounding the Lewis community, so I look forward to getting to know even more of you in the coming years!
