Chinese University Hears Lewis University Dean’s Thoughts on Cultivating Socially Conscious Business Leaders

Published: October 2, 2017.

It is not an option. It is the duty of a business school to cultivate socially conscious business leaders, said Dr. Ryan D. Butt, dean of the College of Business and Graduate School of Management at Lewis University, during his keynote address Sept. 27 at the International Business Dean Forum sponsored by the Shengxiang School of Business at Sanda University in Shanghai, China.

His address was titled “A Business School’s Duty to Their Graduates and Society: Developing Business School Graduates in 21st Century Socially Conscious Leaders.” Butt suggested four ways to achieve this goal of successfully developing students.

1. Continually revise and strengthen the curriculum in accordance with the needs of industry.
2. Provide 21st-century skills and resources to the students.
3. Cultivate a professional culture and environment in the school.
4. Require immersion experiences in order to realize mastery of a program.

The forum was focused on the topic: “Business Trend and Talent Cultivation.” It included discussions on the role of business schools from developing curriculum to faculty engagement, as means to prepare business students for future careers that meet the demands of global businesses.
