Lewis University Receives $350,000 IBHE Grant to Diversify Early Childhood Education Workforce

The Illinois Board of Higher Education awarded Lewis University a $352,994 grant to develop a pipeline of new, diverse and highly-qualified early childhood educators.
Lewis University will use the funds to offer, mentor and support current career and technical educators enrolled in Early Childhood Education master’s degree program cohorts.
After earning an endorsement or full master’s degree in Early Childhood Education, the career and technical educators will be qualified to facilitate classes in child development and early childhood education for high school students in a dual-credit course with community colleges and universities.
The Lewis University Department of Education has a long history of educating current and future leaders within all types of educational contexts. Classes are created with the core constructs of knowledge, praxis, and reflection, asking students to connect theory to practice while reflecting on who they are in the lives of children and families within diverse communities.
