Lewis University to Host 3rd Annual Law Enforcement Torch Run Plane Pull to Benefit Special Olympics Illinois

The Third Annual Law Enforcement Torch Run Plane Pull returns to Lewis University’s Romeoville campus on April 29 at the Aviation Hangar featuring the ultimate tug-of-war competition. Teams of 10 will compete in pulling a United Airlines aircraft 12 feet, as fast as possible.
The event is sponsored by Lewis University and United Airlines to raise funds and awareness towards Special Olympics Illinois. The previous year, 31 teams raised more than $40,000 to support programming for a community of 50,000 traditional athletes, Young Athletes, Unified partners, coaches, volunteers, and more.
Teams must raise a minimum of $500 in funds to participate and will compete in the following divisions:
• Open Division: Ideal for companies, school teams, clubs, friends, and families
• Public Safety Division: law enforcement, firefighters, paramedics, EMT, DNR, DOC, and military personnel; teams need at least 10 public safety competitors to qualify for this division
• Lewis University Division: a division created solely for students, staff, and Alumni of Lewis University; teams need at least 5 Lewis University Associates to qualify for this division
• High School Division: a division created for local high school students and staff
Spectators are encouraged to attend, cheer, and watch this competition take place. United Airlines will also be on-site with a variety of games and raffles. Law enforcement participants from the Five-O Racing will be onsite displaying their cars as well as a Touch-a-Truck event hosted by the Romeoville PD.
