Fulfilling the Dream Conference - Overview

Fulfilling the Dream Conference

elcome to the “Fulfilling the Dream” Conference, a tribute to the great civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., who had a dream about equality, peace, and justice for all people. He is one of the many leaders who fought for the rights of African American students.

In December 2005, Lewis University launched the very first “Fulfilling the Dream” Conference.

This Conference was modeled after the “Si Se Puede” Conference, an event for Latino/a high school students, which was coordinated by the Office of Admission, the Black Student Union, and Multicultural Student Services.

The “Fulfilling the Dream” Conference's purpose is to motivate African American high school students to enroll into higher education, inform students on the college admission & financial aid process, and develop accountability.

The Conference supplies African American students with the essential resources to overcome barriers, understand the importance of education, and become leaders through workshops and discussions. These workshops and discussions include a Black Student Union Panel, Career Success, and Financial Aid 101 sessions.

To add to the element of motivation we have a passionate and respected Keynote Speaker address the attendees. We wrap up the event with Lewis University Gospel Choir performing inspiring Gospel music to set an uplifting outlook for the future.
